"PAUSTIK" – Building Community Resilience to Mitigate Malnutrition – Continuation Phase 2018-2020.

Kindermissionswerk, Germany has been magnanimous in continuing the “PAUSTIK” program for a further period of three years from 2018 – 2020.

The goal of the project is: By the end of December 2020 about 15,000 families from 34 gram panchayats of 4 taluks in 4 districts of Karnataka have better quality of life through proper nutritional care and health practices among vulnerable groups.

The program will be implemented by Bellary Diocesan Development Society (BDDS), Ballari, Seva Sangama Development Society (SSDS), Kalburgi and Belgaum Diocesan Social Service Society (BDSSS), Belagavi under the supervision and monitoring of KROSS.

The planned key strategies are:
- Building rapport and collaboration with Health Department Personnel.
- Awareness programs on Nutrition and other health related issues.
- Awareness & counselling on pre and post-natal care.
- Referral services.
- Building linkages with like-minded organizations
- Promotion of kitchen gardens.
- Home visits through volunteers and outreach workers.
- Building rapport with Nutrition Rehabilitation & Malnutrition Treatment Centres.
- Collaboration with Village Health, Sanitation & Nutrition Committees.

The continuation phase program was inaugurated at KROSS Resource with orientation to the implementing partners’ staff on 18th & 19th January, 2018.

The formal inauguration was done by lighting of the lamp by Fr. Chourappa, Director, BDDS, Fr. Jacob Anthony, Director, BDSSS, Fr. Anil Crasta, Designated Director, SSDS, Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director, KROSS, Mr. G. M. Varghese, Project Officer and three Field Coordinators of the implementing partners.

Fr. Chourappa, in his address shared his experience while implementing the program in the previous phase and invoked God’s blessing on the continuation phase and wishing the staff all the best.

Fr. Jacob Anthony remarked that malnutrition is a country wide problem and said that we in Karnataka should work well for the project “PAUSTIK”, if we want to make some difference in our state.

Fr. Anil Crasta said do not consider malnutrition as a problem but face it with a challenge and the program will succeed.

Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director, KROSS expressed his thanks to Kindermissionswerk for their magnanimity in sanctioning the continuous phase of the programme and requested to put in all our efforts to bring down the scourge of malnutrition in the four districts of North Karnataka.

Thereafter the orientation program started with the Director, KROSS explaining the Goal, Objectives, Strategies, Activities, the role of the implementing partners and the outcome expected.

Mr. G. M. Varghese explained the logical framework and the methodology to be adopted for the Management Information System.

Mr. Richard Martis, Manager-Finance, KROSS explained the budget in details.

The two days program was moderated by Sr. Zita D’souza, Chief Coordinator, Women Empowerment Program. Mr. Clement Fernandes, Manager-Programs welcomed and Mr. G. M. Varghese proposed the vote of thanks.
